“That was unfortunate. It was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “There was a large group of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
Jones additionally clarified that the gesture was completely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I just showed the incorrect finger,” he remarked. “It was accidentally done. This is sincere. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected rapidly.”
League Precedent for Owner Penalties
This incident isn’t the first time an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Recent cases involve:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in January 2024.
